How to help with the website

First Presbyterian Church of San Pedro: Christ for Life

HOME

There are many ways you can help with the website, whether you are a total computer geek or barely understand the web--all that's necessary is that you can send e-mail!

Most important: Content

Web sites live or die by how useful they are to people, which means they need to have helpful, up-to-date information. I don't know everything, and certainly doesn't have time to review every page all the time to make sure it's still up-to-date.

So please send me material. Of course, I want to know if something is wrong (and what "right" is). But I also want new stuff. Ideas are nice, but I really would love text and pictures of anything you think would be helpful to our congregation or potential visitors to our church. It doesn't need to be formatted or anything--just send the raw material, and I will translate it to the web. My goal is to have anything you send on the site within a week (and faster if it's simple).

To send me stuff, e-mail to eriklarson@firstpressanpedro.org. If it is a change to an existing page, please include the "Address" or "URL" of the page, so I know exactly what you're talking about.

Calendar Transcription

Many people have seen the "beta" test calendar and would love to have it be filled out with real information. What I need is someone with some time to regularly copy dates and times from the Fisherman and weekly bulletin (or get it directly from the church calendar). The method for entering data is not hard, but takes a little getting used to. As usual, e-mail me if you're interested.

Graphic design

I'm not much of an artist. My requirements are tasteful and "clean". With my skills, that means boring and sterile. But if someone who has a good eye and has skills with digital graphic design worked on it, I am sure we could have a beautiful, classy looking website that is still easy for users to navigate.

In particular, I would love a new front page main graphic. If you are inspired, a new banner or corner graphic for every page would be nice too. And if you are really gifted, suggestions for a total site design are welcome too.

If you want to work on this, drop me an e-mail so you can get technical details (and you will know if there is anyone else thinking about this too(.

HTML coding

Now here's were the computer geeks get their chance. I only have so much time, and it would be great to share the load. If someone wants to maintain some aspect of the site (making the changes that are sent in) or develop some new part, that would be great. Some level of HTML knowledge is required for this, but I am for simple HTML that works well on all browsers. I don't really like fancy WYSIWYG HTML editors because the usually produce less portable and understandable code. But, I could be persuaded.... Anyway, let me know what you want to do!
